Movies this weekend

If I needed any more proof that I’m not real good at the balance of consumption and production, I got it this week. Over the past three months, I’ve gone to the movies once. This week, three times.

Wednesday, I saw Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, which was pretty great. My only problem with it was that I saw the first installment a year ago. I wish that I had seen it again more recently. I may borrow one of the three copies that we’re giving away for Christmas and then go see it again. Smegol was great.

Yesterday, I saw both Adaptation and Gangs of New York.

Adaptation was one of the better movies that I’ve seen in a long time. It’ll surely be on the list of best screenplays this year. It was pretty easy to relate to the stress while still being really pretty entertaining. It’ll probably help sell more copies of The Orchid Thief than a straight adaptation would have.

Gangs of New York was pretty good, but I was expecting a whole lot more. I was probably a bit unrealistic in my expectations, but the movie’s been hyped for the past three years. I’d been plodding through the book for the past couple of months. Plodding, not because it wasn’t good, but more because there isn’t a plot. It’s more of a collection of historical account of the people and places, with brief stories about interesting events. The sets were amazing and Daniel Day Lewis was great. I’m still waiting to see DiCaprio in Frank Bell’s, “Boy in a Plastic Bag”.
