Protecting Mickey Mouse at Art’s Expense

I think that he’s responding remarkably well. It’s a great idea.

The basic gist of it is to institute a copyright tax, not high in cost, to keep your work out of the public domain 50 years after publication. If after 53 years the tax has not been paid, the work reverts to the public domain. I’d like to see that tax as low as it can possibly be, while still covering the costs of processing the payments and directories.

There’s more information and ways to help at Professor Lessig’s blog.
