TiVo and Rendezvous

From Apple’s updated Rendezvous page

“TiVo’s upcoming premium service package will use Rendezvous technology to automatically discover Macintosh computers within the home network and determine which services they provide, allowing customers to listen to their shared music or view their shared photos on their TV,’ said Jim Barton, Co-founder and CTO for TiVo. “We are excited about working with Apple on other ways Rendezvous can help TiVo Series2 DVRs connect to a Mac to deliver future services.”

This would be really cool if they allowed for sharing video with the home network, sort of like Replay, but actually sharing / syncing rather than streaming. It’d be great to be able to take a video-equipped iPod to your pal’s place with your favorite shows.

The least TiVo could do is give me a batch ‘Save to VCR’ option. I gave Jay ten episodes of the Ben Stiller Show, which Comedy Central was great enough to replay, and it was a colossal pain the ass to tape ten shows. If the show wasn’t so good, I wouldn’t have done it.
