Man, another postless month goes by…
Lisa and I went to see Prince last Tuesday. The good parts of the show were really great, some of the best stuff that I’ve seen. I wasn’t into most of the ballads, but he really does put on a great show. Morris Day and the Time opened, the idea of which was better than their set, but it was still cool. Patti Labelle made a fun appearance, too. It’s corny, but Prince seemed, more than anyone I’ve seen, really concerned about putting on a great show. This Washington Post article is what got me there…
After the show, I went to sign up at the NPG Music Club. I’m a big proponent of finding a way to get the money directly to musicians, but that’s a different topic. So, I go to sign up and realize that the downloadable music is only available in Windows Media format. grr. That’s a deal breaker for me. The FAQ’s regarding the licensing and technology are pretty funny:
“Ur license does not permit ur music files 2 be uploaded on2 a shared server or made available on internet web sites. Although u might be physically able 2 upload the files 2 a shared server, the music files will be rendered useless 2 anyone who downloads them because of the DRM license encryption technology.”
This coming Tuesday, Bjork’s new album, Medulla, comes out. It’s all vocals, no instruments. Rahzel and Dokaka provide the ‘percussion’. Mike Patton’s on there too… I’ll be in L.A. Monday through Wednesday, for a great brand [more on that later], but away from my iPod syncing computer, so I’ll have to wait until Thursday to pick it up.
Be sure to check out Dokaka’s stuff. He’s been heavy on the office rotation, in the annoyingly ‘difficult to concentrate’ playlists…
